A strong commitment to arts and culture is an essential part of SPG’s identity.
Supported by the vision of the founding family, SPG is distinguished by its civic spirit and involvement in the local artistic and cultural scene. This commitment includes promoting leisure activities and beautifying our towns and cities, making an active contribution to their standing.

The Barbier-Mueller museum
Established in 1977 by Jean Paul Barbier-Mueller, the Barbier-Mueller Museum in Geneva houses the world’s largest collection of artefacts from tribal and classical antiquity, as well as sculptures, fabrics and ornaments from diverse cultures in Africa, Oceania, Asia and the Americas. SPG hosts regular private visits to the museum for clients and employees.

Architecture and landscaping
We have consistently demonstrated our commitment to harmonious urban development through the organisation of international architectural and landscaping competitions.
The contemporary Amandolier Garden at Route de Chêne 30 gained recognition in Europe when it placed amongst the finalists in the prestigious European Garden Heritage Network’s 2013 European Garden Awards. This international exterior landscaping competition, launched at the behest of Thierry Barbier-Mueller, was won by Parisian agency TER.
In the same spirit of architectural quality, the Saint-Georges Center project represents a symbolic achievement in Geneva. Located in the Jonction area, the approximately 8,500 m² commercial building was fully demolished and then reconstructed in accordance with Minergie standards. Completed in 2012, the building is the result of an international competition won by Berlin studio Sauerbruch Hutton, in collaboration with Fabio Fossati Architectes. The SPG Real Estate Development Department team was responsible for launching and coordinating the competition.
More recently, in 2022, the SPG Real Estate Development Department completed the Plateau de Frontenex rental project. This residential complex with 156 housing units uses sustainable materials meeting THPE standards for very high energy-efficient performance. Located in a wooded park, this complex is notable for the outdoor spaces designed by Michel Desvigne, a Parisian landscape architect of international repute. Over 200 birches were planted to provide a green setting for the residents.
The development is also distinguished by the inclusion of artwork by Barthélémy Toguo, Pablo Reinoso and Pol Quadens, illustrating SPG’s commitment to combining controlled intensification, landscape integration and artistic expression.

Support for literary endeavours in French-speaking Switzerland
For ten consecutive years, the ‘SPG Literary Prize for a First French-Language Novel’, established by Thierry Barbier-Mueller in 2014, has recognised an initial work of fiction written in French by an author from French-speaking Switzerland and published by a Swiss publishing house. Motivated by open-mindedness and a desire to take action, Thierry Barbier-Mueller is passionate about this project. In 2024, the award expanded its horizons with the launch of the ‘SPG Prize for Literary Creation’ for students. Each year, this prize awards a grant pf CHF 700 to the authors of the three best pieces written as part of their high school exit exam, as a means of discovering new talent and motivating young authors to write.
