SPG’s operations focus on managing and preserving a property portfolio that is sustainable by nature. Our decisions and actions are guided by our desire to balance the three pillars of sustainable development: performance and economic development, social responsibility and environmental conservation.
3 Pillars
Performance and economic development
In the context of our family shareholder structure, we prioritise the investments that are necessary to develop the company over the short, medium and long term over distributing shareholder dividends.
Social responsibility
Our group’s social role is an integral part of our corporate culture and is present in a number of areas: the work environment, health and security, training, sports and leisure pursuits, solidarity and culture.
Environmental conservation
We are committed to promoting environmental conservation through regular actions and innovative projects. We implement our strategy in accordance with a three-pronged approach:
1. Controlling our carbon footprint We roll out initiatives designed to limit greenhouse gas emissions and improve our overall carbon balance sheet.
2. Monitoring and optimising the property portfolio under our management We continuously analyse the performance of the property portfolio under our management. This entails recommending optimisation initiatives and, when appropriate, energy renovations. These measures enable us to reduce building operating costs and increase property values whilst enabling our owner clients to benefit from tax incentives.
3. Offering advice on energy and environmental planning We guide and support project owners in their development, renovation and vertical expansion projects enabling them to attain high energy-efficiency standards in compliance with current requirements.
“
‘We have come to realise that actions promoting sustainable development and initiatives promoting art and culture are two sides of the same coin, reminding us that people are not defined solely by their financial and commercial success but also by their ability to give meaning to their lives and actions. This meaning can only come about through a commitment to the community, the environment, the free flow of ideas and knowledge and the consequent intangible enrichment’.

The SPG Sustainable Development Prize was created in 2012, following the launch of the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) program in energy management offered by the Institute of Environmental Sciences (ISE) in collaboration with the University of Geneva. The original idea behind the prize was to reward an energy management project suitable for any type of building. Since 2019, it has expanded to include all the sustainable development courses at ISE. The prize now awards dissertations on various topics, such as energy management, water governance and geomatics applied to environmental sustainability, as well as urban planning and sustainable development.
SIG energy transition trophies
SPG received the SIG Energy Transition Trophy in the Real Estate Agency category for two consecutive years. This distinction recognises the longstanding commitment of SPG’s employees to energy-efficient construction.
SPG contributed to the following:
Savings of 184,000 kWh, equivalent to the annual consumption of 61 households
Optimisation of the energy efficiency of more than 75 streets
Implementation of eco-housing developments on 68 streets
Proposal of a renovation solution guided by project owner assistance in energy (AMOen)
Reduction in CO2 emissions by 3,400 tonnes, equivalent to the annual emissions of 242 people
SIG Energy Transition Trophies are awarded each year to Genevan companies and communities that actively contribute to energy savings and use renewable local energy sources. In 2023, over 2,700 participants, including companies, communities, artisans, property owners and real estate agencies, took advantage of the SIG-éco21 programme with the goal of implementing concrete measures to reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. These efforts enabled annual savings of 252 GWh, equivalent to the electric consumption of 84,000 households.
This recognition adds value to numerous environmental initiatives and motivates all stakeholders in the Genevan economy to continue pursuing their energy transition efforts.
SPG’s vertical expansion and energy-efficient renovation projects in Geneva
In 2012, in keeping with its commitments, SPG carried out major vertical expansion and energy-efficient renovation projects on its Geneva headquarters. These actions resulted in the following:
A reduction in heating energy consumption, which went from 840 to 267 MJ/m² per year
Annual reductions of 70% in heating needs and 50% in electricity needs per square metre
Savings equivalent to CHF 60,000 per year
This project demonstrates that a well-planned renovation can combine aesthetics, functionality and environmental performance whilst guaranteeing a good return on investment (ROI).
