From October 28, 2022 to February 5, 2023 the Mudac is honored to host the exhibition A Chair and You, one of the world’s largest private collections of design and contemporary art chairs. The event will be the occasion to inaugurate more than 1500 m2 of museum space, located in the heart of Lausanne’s arts district, Plateforme 10.

Initiated in the 1990s by Thierry Barbier-Mueller, this unique collection had remained private until now. Now unveiled to the public, this exhibition of chairs by artists, designers and architects showcases more than 200 chairs in an exceptional staging, imagined by the American artist Robert Wilson. A scenography that immerses the visitor in an immersive and sound atmosphere, where the chairs are represented as real actors of a living art show.

Prototypes never marketed, unique pieces and rare and limited editions, these very exclusive chairs are distinguished by their originality and uniqueness. Some are the work of celebrities from the fields of art, design and architecture, others come from talented artists with less exposure. Seduced and fascinated, the public discovers, through this selection of works of art, a unique artistic show retracing 60 years of design.

The exhibition A Chair and You still has a long way to go, since after the exhibition in Lausanne, it will travel to several countries in Asia, America and Oceania.

The opening took place on October 27 in the presence of State Councillor Nuria Gorrite, in charge of the Vaud Department of Culture, Infrastructure and Human Resources, Chantal Prod’Hom, Director of the Mudac, Olivier Audemars, President of the Board of the Plateforme 10 Foundation, Robert Wilson, director and scenographer of the exhibition, and Thierry Barbier-Mueller, collector.
